Rites of Passage

Ceremony and Rituals are society's way of teaching and maintaining the culture
Why do we have rites of passage?
Are they still a significant part of growing up in the modern world? If not, should they be?

Today, we have ID cards and social security numbers, badges and political party affiliations and Facebook friend lists, jobs and resumes and official titles to remind us and others who we are, where we are in the world, what we do, and who we know. Do these suffice?
Or are we missing out on genuine rites of passage?
ENTRY INTO WOMANHOOD

In today’s culture, the onset of menstruation in young women has lost most of the luster it once carried.

Many young women still think of their first menstruation as a rite of passage into womanhood, but it’s not considered an experience to be celebrated, or to broadcast – just the opposite, in fact.

Why don’t we celebrate this miraculous entrance into womanhood?

Would a real celebration of this important threshold change how we view and experience our menstruation later in life?

Maybe time has come for the first occurrence of menstruation to be an experience that is to be honored, treasured and celebrated.

A celebration for your daughter

Entering into womanhood is a time for celebration!
To celebrate it in a meaningful way together with your daughter, please contact Katrin for organization of a ceremony to mark this special occasion.

Purpose of a rite of passage

"Every rite of passage is an act of becoming, an act of taking responsibility for the self we are choosing to become. A meaningful rite weds knowledge to action, intention to expression, doing to being.  'I am here,' a rite of passage says. 'I am present in my life.' " (Abigail Brenner, author)
